Since these videos have on screen talking, the syncing issues become noticeable after a few minutes, and completely unacceptable after awhile. Therefore Camtasia is changing the length of one of the files, either shortening the audio, or lengthening the video. Or if you prefer the video is 2/30'ths of a second longer. The audio is about 2/30'ths of a second shorter over 5 minutes. However, when I import both media into Camtasia (I have tried up to version 2021), they are different lengths. So the video track and audio track are the same lengths. When I import the audio from the video file into Audacity, it matches up in length exactly with the audio recorded directly in Audacity, to the millisecond. I've not tried it on Windows, but on Linux I was able to fix the MP3s with "mp3val".I recorded a video with onscreen talking with Logitech Capture, and at the same time recorded the audio with a much better mic with Audacity. Turning off error checking entirely would be dangerous. It is currently being discussed whether the error checking can be reduced further, but we need to be careful prevent badly malformed MP3s from causing serious damage to a project. In recent versions of Audacity the error checking has been toned down so that most MP3s will still import even if they contain small errors. Unfortunately we then discovered that malformed MP3s are rather common, and received numerous reports of MP3s failing to import. However, it was found that some malformed MP3s could cause serious problems, so somewhere around version 2.2.2 error checking was enabled. In old versions of Audacity, error checking was disabled in Audacity's MP3 importer. You're right (and I don't remember the exact version number either). But that’s never been such a problem in the version Audacity 2.2.2 (in one of the previous versions about two years ago, I don't remember, may be 2.3.0, 2.3.1).
